Webcasts

I am pleased to announce that I will be presenting two more webcasts through the California CPA Education Foundation in November. One of the topics is Remote Access, and if you are interested in obtaining more information, please visit the calcpa.org website for additional information.

Excel Tip: PivotCharts

PivotCharts are dynamic charts, based on the solid foundation of PivotTable technology. They are used when we want to create a dynamic chart. Dynamic charts are best applied when either (a) the underlying data is frequently changing or (b) we want to quickly and easily play with the chart organization and presentation. An additionally powerful fact of PivotCharts is their ability to perform aggregate functions on the underlying data, thus saving us steps. For example, the PivotChart can sum all transactions by month. In a traditional chart, we would need to first prepare the data such that there is one row per month.

New Office Update

We made it! We successfully launched our new Irvine office! Corporate offices will still remain in Seal Beach, so the mailing address you have is still good. Our technical staff are primarily located here in our new Irvine office. We still need to furnish the conference room, and put in some final touches before we have our open house.

Open Source

I was recently asked which is the best Linux distribution to play with for a desktop setup. Although there are many Linux distributions that are great, if you are just getting started, I would recommend Ubuntu, which is a free download from ubuntu.com. I use Ubuntu at home as my primary desktop, and recently Dell began selling computers with Ubuntu loaded. Enjoy open source my friends.

Google Presentations

Since no Click Consulting newsletter is complete without a Google update, here is a new free service: Online Presentations. As you probably know, through their Google Docs interface (http://docs.google.com), they have allowed us to use Excel and Word files through our browser. Now, they added PowerPoint files. If you have not yet, check it out. The reason this is very cool, is because often times we wish to have online collaborate meetings, and need to use WebEx, GoToMeeting, etc. If we are only sharing a PowerPoint file, we can join people into the presentation and have a real-time chat. Thanks again Google!
