Well, if you are like me, you spend way too much time in your car fighting in traffic. Have you ever actually calculated how many hours you are in your car? If you have a nice commute, it is probably something like 5 hours per week, and if you have an ugly commute, it is probably closer to 10 hours per week. That is a lot. Most of that time is probably spent listening to the radio. Over 5 years ago, I was introduced to a service that forever changed my daily commute. In short: it is audible.com. For the details, view the full story.

My daily commute was the 405, between Irvine and Seal Beach.  It was about an hour each way.  Also adding to this commute issue was the fact that I travel quite a bit going to client locations and training sessions all over the place.  I would say that most of that travel time was wasted time.  And, if you know me, you know that I absolutely hate wasting time (as it is truly a precious resource).  Then, early in 2003, a friend introduced me to a web service that changed everything for me.

That service is audible.com , a high-tech version of the old "book on tape", where books download and play on your ipod, other mp3 players, or even just plain old CDs.  These book downloads changed my daily commute from a one hour waste of time in to a one hour university, where I chose the topics I wanted to learn about.  I learned about entrepreneurship.  I learned about money management.  Then sales and marketing.  I learned about interpersonal relationships.  I learned how the cosmos works, including the basics of quantum mechanics.  I will sometimes even throw in a fiction book just for fun.  In fact, I had a training session in Fresno, which is about 4 hours from my house.  I downloaded a Michael Crichton book, Timeline, for the drive.  I got so hooked on that book, that I found myself slowing down about an hour outside Fresno so that I could listen longer.  In fact, when I am in the middle of a great book, I often look forward to my daily commute.  Wow.

So, if you are sick of wasting time in the car, try audible.com.

PS - I am not affiliated with audible.com, not a stockholder, not an affiliate or partner, and in no way profit when you check them out.  I just love that service and wanted to share.
